Welcome to Edina High School!

Principal's Message

Edina High School is a thriving, comprehensive, three-year high school located in Edina, MN. We are a single high school district, nestled in a community that truly loves and believes deeply in our schools. Our school is known as an educational force at a state and national level, thanks in part to a community that supports our high school with their valuable time and resources.

Key to our success as a school is our dedicated staff.  85% of our staff possess a master’s degree or beyond. They are highly trained and skilled in their avocation. Beyond their strength as a teaching faculty is their commitment to connect with our students and foster relationships that promote personalized learning environments and intellectual curiosity. They are a staff that supports innovation and are not afraid to make the changes needed to remain at the forefront of educational excellence.

Exceptional students are another reason for the success of our school. We spend a great deal of time talking with our students about legacy. What is the legacy that you, as an individual and your class, will leave behind to guide those who follow? As their principal, it has been deeply rewarding and humbling to observe our students in action as they define their legacy work. This work manifests itself in service to our school, community and the world at large. Whether packing meals for Feed Our Starving Children or working to provide clean drinking water to villages in Third World countries, all contributions matter.

Academically, Edina High School is recognized by both U.S. News and World Report and Newsweek as one of the premier high schools in America. In our classrooms you will find a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum, taught by highly-qualified and caring teachers. To help personalize education for every student and enhance the learning experience, we provide leading edge technologies that are integrated into the instruction. The talent and hard work of our students ultimately makes Edina High School the exceptional learning environment for which it is well known.

While there are many ways to measure academic success, the following are just a couple snapshots highlighting our students’ achievements last year:

• In 2014-2015 we administered 2,496 Advanced Placement tests to 1,242 students (62% of our school’s population). Over 86% of these students recorded a score of 3 or higher, qualifying them for college credit while still in high school, as compared to a state average of 66.6% and a national average of 60.7%.

• In 2015-2016 41 students earned recognition as National Merit Finalists, Semifinalists, or Commended Scholars.  Edina Public Schools is proud to have had students named National Merit Semifinalists and Finalists every year since the National Merit Scholarship Corporation began its recognition and scholarship program in 1955.

Parents also play an important role in making Edina High School a center of academic success. We are thankful for the high degree of parent engagement in our school community, and for the support they show student, staff and the district as a whole. This kind of engagement  is directly related to the excellence at Edina High School and helps make the school a focal point of the community.

We are also proud to provide numerous opportunities for our students to excel outside the classroom. Edina High School offers a comprehensive slate of athletics, fine arts, activities and clubs for our students. Over 90% of Edina High School students participate in a school-sponsored activity.

• In the athletic domain, we have won 153 State Championships in our school’s illustrious history, earning Edina High School national recognition for our athletic program by Sports Illustrated.

• Our students are also highly accomplished in fine arts programs with a myriad of opportunities from which to choose.  Musically, Edina High School has been a Nationally Recognized Grammy Winner, and was lauded by the International Thespians with a performance of Anything Goes on their main stage.

• There are numerous activities and clubs for students. We are proud to say that if students have an interest, we are eager to help them convert their passion into a reality by allowing them to form a club or help them find a way to showcase their talent.

At Edina High School, we wholly embrace the districts All for All mission. We work to help all students experience high school in a way that prepares them for their future academically, socially and emotionally.  For more information, please explore our web site or contact us at 952-848-3800.
